Mike's Monday Thought Logic And Legalism I love logic. I love shutting down a discussion with a powerful logical argument that can't be refuted. Whether said or just understood, my brain says, "I'm right! You're wrong! Case closed!" That is probably why logic and legalism go hand in hand. When we interpret scripture only through the eyes of seeking to be logical and rational, we discover rules that support our idea of righteousness and we ignore things that cannot be logically and rationally understood. Because of a rational interpretation of scripture, God doesn't talk, the Holy Spirit doesn't dwell in us, angels are historic figures, and love is reduced to an extracurricular church activity. Logic leads to legalism and legalism leads to being judgmental and exclusive. It is not that logic is bad. It's just that logic without "the mind of Christ" sees laws rather than love. ...
