Florissant church of Christ
Sunday, June 29, 2025FROM JERRY:We live in a world that seems more divided by the day. Civil conversations have become rare, and controversial issues often lead to canceled relationships, not just canceled opinions. It’s not just that we disagree—it’s how we disagree. Tone, timing, and temperament seem to be forgotten arts in the public square. Unfortunately, even Christians can fall into the trap of shouting when we should be listening and judging when we should be pointing to Jesus. That’s why we’re launching a new sermon series starting next week (yep, it’s almost July), called “Hot Topics: Speaking Truth in a Heated Culture.” This series will challenge us not only to stand firm in biblical truth, but to do so in a way that reflects the heart of Christ. As Ephesians 4:15 challenges us, we are called to “speak the truth in love,” growing to become more like Jesus in both conviction and compassion. Here’s what you can expect from the first few messages:July 6 – “Hot, But Not Heated”How do we stay passionate about truth without losing our cool? Jesus was never lukewarm—but neither was He harsh or hostile (well maybe once).July 13 – “Speaking Truth Without a Flame-Thrower”Truth isn’t a weapon to destroy people; it’s a light to guide them.July 20 – “Grace in a Cancel Culture”What does grace look like in a world eager to write people off?Beginning July 27 through August 24, we’ll take a closer look at specific Hot Topics in our culture—divisive issues that demand both biblical clarity and Christlike humility. Our goal is not to stir up outrage but to stir up faith, love, and wisdom utilizing the skills and Biblical truths we have learned in the first few weeks of the series—because truth without grace hardens hearts, and grace without truth softens conviction. This is a series for anyone who wants to speak wisely, listen humbly, and live courageously in a world that desperately needs to hear the voice of Jesus and see His methods lived out in His people.Make plans to join us, bring a friend, and come with an open heart. Let’s grow together in the heat of the summer months, becoming people who are “quick to listen, slow to speak, and slow to become angry” (James 1:19)—because the world needs less heat and more light.I Love my Church.JW ...
