Mike's Monday Thought Most Important? Many times through the years, a communion presider has commented that the Lord's Supper is the most important thing we do on Sunday morning. I have even had them smile at me and say, "Sorry, Mike," as if I truly thought my sermon was always number one. Why do we say it's the most important? In Acts 20:7 it says, "On the first day of the week we came together to break bread." We have been told that this is the Lord's Supper and therefore it was the purpose of coming together. First, it is traditionally interpreted as the Lord's Supper but it could have just been a meal. Secondly, it was Saturday evening after the end of the Sabbath not Sunday morning. Thirdly, Paul preached until midnight and probably thought what he shared was pretty important. Finally, a young guy named Eutychus would probably have a very different opinion about what the most important thing was that happened at that gathering.
