Simon Says – Christ As Lord             9-5-21

Bottom Line:  We must believe that Jesus is the Christ, but we must also make him Lord of our life.

Introduction:

 A. Lost in translation – problems with different translations.

   1. Old NIV “live in harmony” – New NIV “be like-minded”

   2. MSG “Be agreeable” – all similar but only one topic!

 B. 1 Peter 3:13-16, Key in on second sentence of vs.15, but the key to the passage is the first sentence.

   1. Four Bibles on my desk: Old & New NIV, MSG, & NLT

     * Old NIV “But in your hearts set apart Christ as Lord”

     * New NIV “But in your hearts revere Christ as Lord”

     * MSG “Through thick and thin, keep your hearts at attention, in adoration before Christ, your Master.”

     * NLT “Instead, you must worship Christ as Lord of your life.”

   2. Which one is best? All of them. Let’s key in on NLT!

 C. Worship Christ as Lord of your life! A loaded sentence!

   1. Worship – a life given in obedience to God. Rom.12:1

   2. Christ – anointed one – Messiah – Son of God

   3. Lord – Master, the one we live for and obey!

 D. Jesus as Lord means at least three key things…

1. Choice

 A. God is love, love means choice, God gives us a choice!

 B. Any doctrine that removes choice also removes love!

   1. Calvinism: TULIP? T=total depravity; U=Unconditional Election (Predestination); L=Limited Atonement (Christ died exclusively for the elect); I=Irresistible Grace (Can’t resist God’s call); P=Perseverance of the Saints (once saved always saved)

 C. Choice means we are responsible and accountable!

2. Challenge

 A. Focus! Fight the good fight of faith!

 B. Love! Relationships count = purpose of the church!

3. Change

 A. Changing – Becoming – Growing = process of seeking!

 B. Transformation: Romans 12:2, not conforming to world!

2 Corinthians 3:12-18, vs.18 key, becoming like Jesus!

Conclusion:

A. Joshua renewing the covenant with the people – 24:14-15

B. Jesus: choice, challenge, and change (ministry to sacrifice)

C. Jesus is a lot of things to all of us. The only one that truly matters in the end will be – is he Lord of our life!
