Seven Mountain Principles #4                           5-22-22

Bottom Line: God is worshipped when we seek him.

Introduction:

 A. If we still had arranged marriages, would your parents have picked the same spouse you did?

 B. The process of meeting, dating, falling in love, & marriage

 C. Relationships only happen with intention and effort.

 D. Seekers want a relationship with God. That is what it means to be a seeker! That is what pleases God!

 E. Jesus is guiding us as we seek to know and please God.

 F. Do you know what it is called when you and I seek a deeper relationship with God? Worship.

 G. Seven Mountain Principle #4: God is worshipped when we seek him.

   1. Proverbs 11 “The Lord detests people with crooked hearts, but he delights in those with integrity.”

   2. Matt.6:1 “Be careful not to do your acts of righteousness before men, to be seen by them. If you do, you will have no reward from your Father in heaven.”

   3. John 4, Jesus talks w/ the woman at the well. He connects seeking and worshipping.

 H. God is worshipped when/as we seek him. Jesus tells us how and what God is looking for.

1. There is no relationship without talking! (6:5-15)

 A. Prayer/talking must be personal – not seen by others!

 B. It must be specific! He models it for us!

 C. Essential to our relationship w/ him! Vs.14-15

2. There is no relationship without focus! (6:16-18)

 A. Fasting was a long cultural practice to help focus!

 B. The principle:  Do without to focus on God! Oft ignored!

 C. When and how? Not a show but private. Like Jesus did!

3. There is no relationship without prioritizing! (2-4; 19-24)

 A. Giving, sharing, & sacrificing = personal & private!

   * YOU MATTER TO ME!

 B. A spiritual investment! Grow & learn but think eternal!

 C. There can only be ONE MASTER! Relational priority!

Conclusion:

A. So, where are you on this journey to have a relationship with God?

B. Check the requirements: Talking? Focusing? Giving?

C. The key is the process, the journey, the walk…

D. God was seeking Moses, but he wasn’t seeking God!

   * An 80 year process. Doubts, wonders, & questions.

   * After time with God, he became a seeker, loved by God in spite of his mistakes.

E. You only worship God when you are seeking him!
